Useful Info
FAQs & Essential Information
Do I need to book in advance?
Sygun is a self-guided tour therefore no pre-booking is required.
What is it really like underground?
The underground caverns of the Copper Mine are cool with a year round temperature of about 9°C so please wrap up warm whatever the temperature above ground. Please also wear sensible footwear as the floor is wet and uneven in places with some loose stones. Caverns and tunnels have quite dim lighting and there are a few tunnels where you need to duck to walk through, each visitor is issued with a safety helmet to protect your head from any contact with the roof.
How far do you have to walk?
Sygun Coppermine is a self guided walking tour in which you visit three levels of the the old workings. These levels are reached via a series of staircases which take you up through the mountain. The tour concludes at the Victoria Level of the mine where you will follow the mountain path back to the visitor centre. The total distance is approximately 500 metres.
Is it suitable for Pushchairs/wheelchairs?
Unfortunately due to the nature of the tour it is not suitable for Pushchairs or Wheelchairs.
Am I able to carry my child?
Yes, you can but we do not advise carrying young children in a back carrier. The underground tunnels are low in places and a child on your back is vulnerable should you have to duck. You are welcome to carry your child at the front so that they are always at a lower height than you.
Are dogs allowed inside Sygun Copper Mine?
You are welcome to take your dog underground with the consideration that the levels you visit are reached via a series of metal grided staircases (fire escape type) not all dogs are happy to climb these.
How long will the visit take?
The underground tour lasts approximately 40 minutes. The overall time you should allow depends on the size of your party and the additional time spent on the surface.
